We are looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to manage the technical, Design, quality and engineering issues that may arise through the various stages the HS2 SCS JV from 

The Electrical Engineering role (or subject Matter Expert Electrical (SME)) for the l Headhouses and Fitout is responsible for the delivery of the specific headhouse and fitout assets for Electrical elements; leading and coordinating all relevant Electrical engineering within the Headhouse and Shafts MEP team. The Electrical Engineering role ensures the works are technically correct, assured, and coordinated between disciplines to facilitate delivery and assurance. They must collaborate closely with all other technical leads and relevant operational leads in Headhouse and Shafts Delivery Unit with the aim of a delivery of the project to the right quality. This includes close working with AFO and stage 5 design managers.

This is a technical management role reporting to the Senior Engineering Headhouse & Shaft MEP.

Role responsibility

  • Leading the Electrical Engineering focus across the S&H assets, ensuring consistency across the asset teams.
  • Discharging appropriate Lead Designer duties

  • Challenge the team to Innovate and not accept the status quo
  • Lead compliance with the CDM 2015 Regulations from a technical perspective
  • Ensure collaborative working, the right behaviours and culture within the team 
  • Deliver Electrical works in line with the SCS Engineering Management Plan and all other relevant Processes and Procedures 
  • Support commissioning and testing of all electrical installations 
  • Support the Budget Owner Construction Site Support (CSS) with Design House (DH) for related technical workstreams
  • Appropriately identify, manage, communicate and mitigate Risk 
  • Prioritise appropriate and integrated technical change control.  Ensuring that it is managed, monitored and the implications (including derogations) are assessed and authorised, as appropriate.
  • Liaise and interface with other appropriate disciplines and third parties: Commercial, Planning, Consents & Engagement etc (not exhaustive list) providing the necessary technical input as the principal project Subject Matter Expert (SME) in regard of Electrical discipline.
  • Ensure that the works are appropriately considerate for maintenance and health, safety and welfare during construction and in-use. 
  • Ensure any electrical related departures/deviations from HS2 and National standards are escalated and raised.
  • Review any technical change from National Technical Standard Notification (NTSN) perspective related Safety in Railway Tunnels (SRT), Infrastructure (INF), Accessibility (ACC) (formerly called Persons with Reduced Mobility (PRM) and Energy (ENE) and consult with SME for interoperability.
  • Ensure that the delivered permanent and temporary designs are subject to constructability reviews
  • Management of appropriate technical subcontractors
  • Identify and implement opportunities for optimization of project programme
  • Management of Design integration and change control during construction
  • Undertaking Lead Designer Interventions from technical and safety perspective

The ideal candidate

    • Educated to degree or higher and hold relevant professional qualification in Electrical matters 
    • Skilled understanding and experience of BS7671 installation and compliance
    • Sustained Continuing Professional Development. 
    • Extensive experience in project-based design and engineering management across all project stages
    • Extensive experience of large complex projects in the rail, highways, water or energy sectors.
    • Expert understanding of Engineering Principles and extensive technical knowledge
    • Experience of managing the challenges associated with multi-disciplinary teams. 
    • Understanding of digital engineering in design and construction phases and of using the Digital Plan of Works.   
    • Strong communication and leadership skills
    • Relevant CSCS Card

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the construction of site compounds.
